Brendan Rodgers: 'Draw a fair result for both Celtic and Rangers'

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes that the Scottish Premiership goalless draw with Rangers is a fair result for both Old Firm teams.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has claimed that the goalless draw with Rangers is a fair result for both teams.

The final Old Firm derby of 2017 saw both sides spurn several golden chances, with Scott Sinclair and Alfredo Morelos both coming close to scoring.

Rodgers pointed to the fact that the Hoops dominated the first half, while Rangers were strong after the restart, as the main reason why a share of the spoils is fair.

"It was a very frantic game," the Northern Irishman told reporters. "I thought we created the better chances in the first half. It wasn't a great game of quality throughout the 90 minutes but certainly we had the better chances of the first half.

"But Rangers will say they had the better second half with chances and opportunities. We looked as though we could threaten but we couldn't really make that breakthrough in the final third of the pitch.

"We've shown if we get that goal, especially early on then that really sets us up and opens the game up for us but all in all it was probably a point for both teams that was deserved."

The stalemate keeps Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic 11 points clear of their Glasgow rivals in the table.
