Sean Dyche: 'Burnley quartet in England contention'

Burnley boss Sean Dyche suggests that four of his players deserve to be in contention for Gareth Southgate's next England squad.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has suggested that four of his players deserve to be in contention for the next England squad, which is named later this month.

Earlier this week, a report claimed that James Tarkowski was being considered by Gareth Southgate after starring in the centre of defence this season.

However, Dyche has said that Matthew Lowton, Ben Mee and Jack Cork should all fall into the same bracket as their teammate.

At a press conference, the 46-year-old told reporters: "They are certainly candidates to be spoken about. Corky as well, Ben Mee and Lowts are on the periphery, people mention their names.

"I respect Gareth Southgate and speak to him, but I don't always speak to him about the players here. If he asks my opinion, I'll give it but I do respect it's very difficult to choose the right players in a squad, whether it's a friendly or a tournament.

"I respect his decision on that. But it's nice to see our players laying down markers enough to be thought about. It's good for them and good for us."

Burnley currently sit in seventh place in the top-flight standings.
