Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Bristol Rovers and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Bristol Rovers will attempt to end a run of three consecutive defeats when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys are set to return to League One action after falling short in their midweek EFL Cup tie against Aston Villa.

Match preview

Bristol Rovers have experienced an underwhelming start to the season, having won two, drawn one and lost four of their seven league matches.

Since claiming their most recent win over Cambridge United, the Gas have gone on to lose three consecutive matches against Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United.

They threatened to stage a dramatic comeback in last Saturday's away clash against Peterborough United, with Luke McCormick and Gatlin O'Donkor grabbing a goal apiece to reduce a three-goal deficit to one.

However, the Gas were unable to find the elusive equaliser, ensuring that they fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat which leaves them 20th spot and one point above the drop zone.

Although they have failed to take anything from their last two matches, Bristol Rovers may still fancy their chances of claiming all three points against Wycombe after winning two of their opening three league games this season.

In contrast to their hosts, Wycombe are enjoying a fine run of league form, having put together a four-game unbeaten run in the third tier.

They beat Rotherham United and drew with Blackpool before they recorded back-to-back 2-1 victories over Northampton Town and Cambridge United to move up to 11th spot in the table.

Wycombe put their league campaign on hold to turn their attention to Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round tie against Champions League participants Aston Villa.

The Chairboys hopes to spring a surprise to reach the fourth round for the first time since their semi-final run in 2006-07, but they ultimately fell short against the Villans as Richard Kone's 95th-minute effort proved too little too late in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

Matt Bloomfield's side would have at least taken confidence from their battling display, and they will look to produce another strong performance in Saturday's league fixture as they go in search of a sixth successive head-to-head win over Bristol Rovers.

Team News

Bristol Rovers are unable to call upon long-term absentees Joel Senior and Chris Martin, while Micah Antony will miss the game with a shoulder issue.

Defender Taylor Moore will serve the second game of a three-match suspension after being shown a straight red card against Wigan earlier this month.

McCormick and O'Donkor could come into the side after making an impact off the bench last weekend, while there could also be a recall for Luke Thomas.

As for the visitors, they are without the services of Ryan Tafazolli, Nathan Bishop, Sam Vokes, Brandon Hanlan and Gideon Kodua.

Luke Leahy, David Wheeler and Fred Onyedinma are making progress in their bid to get to full fitness, but the trio are unlikely to be involved in Saturday's matchday squad.

Jack Grimmer, Daniel Harvie, Gareth McCLeary, Cameron Humphreys and Richard Kone are all set to be recalled after they dropped down to the bench for the EFL Cup clash with Aston Villa.

Bristol Rovers possible starting lineup:
Griffiths; Taylor, Wilson, Mola; Thomas, McCormick, Conteh, Lindsay, Sousa; O'Donkor, Sotiriou

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Ravizzoli; Grimmer, Taylor, Low, Harvie; Scowen, Butcher, Humphreys; McCleary, Sadlier, Kone

We say: Bristol Rovers 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe have won each of their previous five games against Bristol Rovers, including a 2-1 win in last season's away fixture, and we think that they will continue that run against a team that has lost each of their last three league matches.
