Thomas Meunier: 'Brazil were disappointing'

Belgium defender Thomas Meunier "expected more difficulties" against Brazil in Friday night's 2018 World Cup quarter-final.

Belgium defender Thomas Meunier has said that he "expected more difficulties" against Brazil in Friday night's 2018 World Cup quarter-final.

Belgium shocked tournament favourites Brazil to book their spot in the semi-finals of the competition courtesy of a 2-1 win.

Meunier went head to head with Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar on the left of Brazil's attack, and the 26-year-old has admitted that he expected a tougher test against the Selecao.

"I didn't expect that, I expected more difficulties, but we were so organised collectively," Meunier told reporters.

"I always had help from Marouane Fellaini, from Toby Alderweireld. We were really focused on him, on [Philippe] Coutinho, on Marcelo, and we did a really wonderful job. I think we can congratulate ourselves for the job that we did defensively.

"Even offensively I got really frustrated because I didn't touch the ball. I made a lot of sacrifices for the team and I am happy that we won because of that."

Belgium will take on France in the semi-finals of the competition on Tuesday night.
