Barcelona confirm double injury blow following Sunday's 4-2 win over La Liga title rivals Atletico Madrid, as Inigo Martinez and Marc Casado withdraw from Spain squad.

Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez and midfielder Marc Casado picked up injuries in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Atletico Madrid.

The Blaugrana staged a stunning fightback to claim a dramatic win over their title rivals in Sunday's clash at the Metropolitano.

Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres found the net to wipe out Atletico's two-goal advantage, before Lamine Yamal's deflected effort gave Barcelona the lead in stoppage time.

Torres added his second and Barcelona's fourth to round off a crucial victory which moved Hansi Flick's side back to the top of the table and level on points with Real Madrid, who have played one game more than their Clasico rivals.

Unfortunately for Barcelona, Martinez and Casado were both unable to make it through the match unscathed, with the pair sustaining knee injuries during the comeback win.

Martinez, Casado withdrawn from Spain squad

The Catalan giants have released a statement to confirm the injuries and that they have both been forced to withdraw from Luis de la Fuente's Spain squad for the UEFA Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands.

Barcelona said: "Tests carried out on Monday morning have shown that the first team player Marc Casado has an injury to a ligament in his right knee. The player is to undergo further tests to ascertain the extent of the injury and subsequent treatment.

"Monday morning also saw tests that have confirmed that the first team player Inigo Martinez has a swollen right knee. The player will undergo treatment in Barcelona under the supervision of the Club's medical staff."

There appears to be more concern over the extent of Casado's injury than there is over Martinez's knee problem.

How long will Martinez, Casado be out?

As per Javi Miguel, Martinez is set to be out for two to three weeks, meaning that he should return to action by the first week of April.

In contrast to Martinez, Casado faces a longer spell on the sidelines, with the midfielder in a race against time to play again this season.

According to Toni Juamarti, the 21-year-old is expected to be out for up to two months after sustaining the knee injury in a collision with Antoine Griezmann in the first half of Sunday's win.

A two-month absence would see Casado return before the final La Liga game of the season and just before the Champions League final on May 31 if Barcelona were able to make it all the way to the showpiece event.

However, even if he is available for selection by that point, it seems unlikely that he would have any major role to play due to a lack of match sharpness. body check tags ::
