Round four of the 2024 Argentine Primera Division season sees Banfield and Newell's Old Boys lock horns at Estadio Florencio Sola on Wednesday.

The teams were both victorious in their respective most recent outings and will both be looking to pick up where they left off last time out.

Match preview

Banfield secured safe passage into the last 16 of the 2024 Copa Argentina thanks to a 2-1 victory over Independiente Rivadavia on Thursday.

Goals from Bruno Sepulveda and Milton Gimenez either side of half time put Julio Falcioni's men in the driving seat before Victorio Ramis pulled one back 20 minutes from time.

Prior to that, El Taladro were on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat against Gimnasia La Plata which saw them drop to 26th in the Argentine Primera Division table.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have won each of the last three and are unbeaten in six straight editions of this fixture since 2019.

Having claimed just two wins from their last nine matches on home turf, Wednesday's hosts have fared poorly in front of their fans of late and will be keen to turn things around.

Newell's Old Boys made it three victories from four outings across all competitions courtesy of a 1-0 triumph over Defensa y Justicia at Estadio Marcelo Bielsa on Saturday.

Mauricio Larriera's men opened the scoring in the 80th minute thanks to Armando Mendez's strike, which proved to be the all-important moment in a tight affair.

With six points on the board from three league games so far, La Lepra currently sit 10th in the standings, albeit just a point off the top four.

Goalless in two of their last three away involvements, Wednesday's visitors have work to do at the top end of the pitch if they are to come away with maximum points here.

Team News

Juan Bisanz has not featured for Banfield since the turn of the year, and the forward is still a long way off making his return to action.

Alejandro Cabrera and Alexis Maldonado will also miss out for the home side as they continue to nurse knee and ankle injuries respectively.

Marcelo Barovero came off with an injury scare against Gimnasia and could be set to miss a second straight game, leaving Facundo Sanguinetti as the favourite to start between the sticks.

Jherson Mosquera remains suspended having been found guilty of doping will not be available for Newell's Old Boys until the third week of August.

Nineteen-year-old Giovanni Chiaverano continues his spell on the sidelines for the visitors with a thigh problem he sustained against Defensa on April 16.

Banfield possible starting lineup:
Sanguinetti; Insua, Quiros, Perez, Cardozo; Rodriguez, Galvan, Morales, Alvarez; Gonzalez, Gimenez

Newell's Old Boys possible starting lineup:
Hoyos; Schott, Velazquez, Glavinovich, Martino; Cacciabue, Fernandez, Banega; Gonzalez, Ramirez, Aguirre

We say: Banfield 1-1 Newell's Old Boys

Newell's Old Boys boast the superior record in this fixture of late but their record away to Banfield has been woeful, to say the least. We are backing a share of the spoils with honours even at the sound of the full-time whistle.
