Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hinted that Alexandre Lacazette could sign a new contract at the club.

The 30-year-old has been an important player for the Gunners this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions, contributing six goals and eight assists in the process.

Lacazette's contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of June, though, and he has allegedly already rejected the chance to pen a one-year extension.

Lyon and Barcelona are both believed to be keen to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer this summer.

However, Arteta has indicated that the centre-forward could sign a new deal to remain in North London, having impressed in recent weeks.

"I think with Alex it's very clear what he brings to the team. He's shown it consistently since I've been here, and what we have to resolve is the contractual timing, in the best possible way, and when we all align on the same page," Arteta told reporters.

Lacazette, who is believed to be looking for a new three-year contract, has scored 71 goals and registered 36 assists in 197 appearances for Arsenal since arriving from Lyon in July 2017. body check tags ::
