Arsenal 'tell Max Meyer to lower wage demands'

Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing free agent Max Meyer, but only if the Germany international lowers his wage demands.

Arsenal have reportedly told free agent Max Meyer to lower his wage demands if he wants to join the club.

Meyer is available on a free transfer this summer after leaving Schalke 04 following the expiration of his contract at the start of this month.

The 22-year-old has been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Liverpool, but both clubs are understood to have been put off by his demands for a salary of £4m per year.

However, Transfermarketweb reports that the Gunners would still be interested in Meyer should he accept a lower wage, with new manager Unai Emery looking to bolster his squad with a tight budget this summer.

Arsenal have already brought in Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi during the current window, but Emery recently suggested that he would be open to further additions so long as they were right for the club.

Meyer, who is a Germany international, had previously been linked with a move to Hoffenheim too, only for those talks to break down at an advanced stage.
