Unai Emery "happy" with Arsenal performance

Arsenal manager Unai Emery insists that he is "happy" with his side's performance against Manchester City, despite seeing them fall to a 2-0 home defeat.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that he is "happy" with his side's performance against Manchester City despite falling to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of the champions this afternoon.

The Gunners were second best for long spells of the season opener, with goals from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva condemning Emery to defeat in his first competitive match in charge.

The Spaniard admitted that his side needed to improve, but was content with what he saw from his players over the course of the 90 minutes.

"I am happy with the players. The team, for 90 minutes, they ran, they tried, they pushed, but we need to improve all collective and individual aspects," Emery told reporters at his post-match press conference.

"We have to continue working tactically and defensively, and also making shorter the difference between Manchester City and us."

Emery will renew his search for a first win in charge of Arsenal when his side take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a London derby next weekend.
