Arsenal have reportedly approached Ajax's director of football Marc Overmars to discuss a return to the Gunners.

Overmars turned out for Arsenal between 1997 and 2000, helping the club win a Premier League and FA Cup double in the 1997-98 campaign before leaving for Barcelona in July 2000.

The 45-year-old has been Ajax's director of football since June 2012 and he has a contract with the Dutch giants until the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.

However, according to The Mirror, Ajax face a fight to keep hold of the Dutchman, who Arsenal want to become their first technical director as part of a revamp at the Emirates Stadium.

Unai Emery's side will be looking to record their third straight Premier League win when they travel to the champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
