Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere relieved to score first club goal in years

Jack Wilshere is relieved at breaking a two-and-a-half-year scoring duck by netting in Arsenal's 6-0 Europa League win over BATE Borisov.

Jack Wilshere has expressed relief at having scored for Arsenal in their 6-0 home win over BATE Borisov and is happy to have given manager Arsene Wenger "a headache".

The 25-year-old, who has endured several injury-hit years, is yet to make a single Premier League start this season and has only appeared three times off the bench.

Wilshere has played in each of Arsenal's six Europa League games so far, however, and scored his first club goal in two-and-a-half years in Thursday's final Group H fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

"It's a bit of a relief [that I scored]," the England international told BT Sport after the game.

"It's one of those games - it didn't mean anything because we had topped the group. It's one of those games you need to be in the right mind - we enjoyed it. We're happy to go into the next round.

"All we can do when we get our opportunity is give the manager a headache."

Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and has made only three Premier League starts for the Gunners since November 2014 mostly due to his injury troubles.
