Jose Mourinho: 'Manchester United extra motivated to beat Bournemouth'

Jose Mourinho says that his Manchester United players will "have a little bit extra to give" against Bournemouth, three days on from defeat at the hands of Man City.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that his players "have a little bit more desire" to overcome Bournemouth on Wednesday night following their derby-day defeat.

The Red Devils went down 2-1 to rivals Manchester City at the weekend to leave their Premier League title hopes in tatters - a match that has been overshadowed by events after the full-time whistle.

Mourinho's charges now trail City by 11 points at the top of the table but, ahead of the midweek visit of Bournemouth, the Portuguese was quick to point out that his side are better placed now compared to 12 months ago.

"When you lose you probably have a little bit more desire to win it," he told reporters. "Nobody wants to lose once. Nobody wants to lose twice. Every team in the world, when you lose a match, the next one you have a little bit extra to give.

"The number of points that we have, last season we had seven less or eight less in this moment. Last season we drew at home against Bournemouth. Now let's try to do better than we did last season."

Man United have won five of their previous six home games against Bournemouth, with the exception being a 1-1 draw in March last season.
