Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Alaves and Getafe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Getafe will be bidding to stretch their unbeaten run in La Liga to five matches when they head to Alaves on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors have moved up into 14th spot in the La Liga table due to their recent strong run of form, while Alaves sit in 18th spot, two points behind 17th-placed Espanyol in the battle to remain in the division.

Match preview

Alaves boast a record of five wins, six draws and 11 defeats from their 22 La Liga matches this season, with a total of 21 points leaving them in 18th spot in the table, two points behind 17th-placed Espanyol.

El Glorioso had an excellent 2023-24 campaign, finishing up in 10th spot in the table, but they have found it more difficult this season, with the Basque outfit firmly involved in a relegation battle with 16 games left to play.

Eduardo Coudet's side will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona, but they can take plenty of positives from their performance, while four points have been returned from their last three league fixtures.

Alaves have only picked up 13 points from their 10 home league matches this season, but Getafe have found it difficult on their travels, claiming only eight points from their 10 games away from home.

The Blue and Whites beat Getafe 1-0 in the corresponding match during the 2023-24 campaign, but they suffered a 2-0 defeat when the two teams locked horns in the Spanish capital earlier this season.

Getafe are unbeaten in La Liga in 2025, picking up eight points from their four matches against Las Palmas, Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Sevilla, which has moved them into 14th spot in the table.

Jose Bordalas's side are still very much involved in the battle towards the bottom, but they are currently three points clear of the relegation zone and only four points behind 11th-placed Real Sociedad.

Getafe have the second-best defensive record in La Liga this season, only conceding 17 times, but they have the second-worst attacking record, having netted just 17 goals.

There were no signs of their defensive solidarity against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday evening, though, with Bordalas's team suffering a 5-0 defeat to the Red and Whites in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Getafe finished 12th in La Liga last season, and it would not be a surprise to see them in a similar spot this term, as they are surely too strong defensively to finish towards the bottom of Spain's top flight, even taking into account their goalscoring issues.

Team News

Alaves will welcome Abdel Abqar back into their XI on Sunday, with the centre-back returning from the suspension that ruled him out of the 1-0 defeat to Barcelona last time out.

Antonio Sivera remains unavailable for selection due to a hand injury, while Tomas Conechny was forced off early against Barcelona following a head injury, and his spot in the side could be taken by Carlos Martin.

Head coach Coudet may otherwise name an unchanged side, including a spot through the middle for Kike Garcia, who has scored nine times in La Liga during an impressive campaign to date.

As for Getafe, Omar Alderete is available again after serving a suspension, but Luis Milla and Allan Nyom are again expected to miss out with injury problems on Sunday afternoon.

Borja Mayoral is expected to be introduced into the XI, with the 27-year-old being used sparingly in recent weeks due to injury concerns, but he should now be ready to start for the capital outfit.

There will be changes to the side that started against Atletico in the Copa del Rey, with Djene Dakonam, Mauro Arambarri and Carles Perez all in line for recalls against Alaves.

Alaves possible starting lineup:
Owono; Tenaglia, Abqar, Diarra, M Sanchez; Blanco, Guevara; Vicente, Guridi, Martin; Kike Garcia

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Iglesias, Duarte, Alderete, Rico; Perez, Dakonam, Arambarri, Coba; Uche, Mayoral

We say: Alaves 0-0 Getafe

Unfortunately, we are not expecting this match to be a classic; six of the last nine La Liga meetings between these two sides have finished level, including three goalless draws, and we are predicting another stalemate on Sunday afternoon.
