Comedian and impressionist Mike Yarwood dies at the age of 82.

Comedian and impressionist Mike Yarwood has died at the age of 82, it has been announced.

First coming to prominence in the 1960s, Yarwood quickly became a household name for his hilarious impressions, which included the likes of Harold Wilson, Ted Heath, Brian Clough, Frank Spencer and Robin Day.

The entertainer's shows regularly attracted audiences in excess of 18 million viewers, while a Christmas special he hosted in 1977 drew over 21 million.

After his Thames TV show was cancelled in the late '80s, Yarwood gradually left the spotlight, although he was invited to be a special guest at what turned out to be Bob Monkhouse's final comedy show in 2003.

Announcing his death via social media, the Royal Variety Charity said: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of the legendary comedian and impersonator, #MikeYarwood, OBE.

"Mike leaves behind an immeasurable void in the entertainment industry. We send our deepest condolences to Mike's family, his many friends and fans. RIP."

Yarwood is survived by two daughters.
