Producers of The Crown reportedly struggle to cast Prince Andrew for the upcoming fifth season.

Producers of The Crown are reportedly finding it tough to cast their Prince Andrew for the upcoming fifth season.

The epic royal drama is to return for two final seasons charting The Queen's reign through the 1990s and into the early 21st century, with her children coming more to the fore.

Prince Andrew has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons over the last two years, as his questionable relationship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein led to a car-crash interview with Newsnight in 2019.

While The Crown will not cover those events, The Sun claims that the stigma surrounding Andrew has made it difficult to sign up someone to play him in his younger days.

The newspaper says that the part is now being advertised on industry website Spotlight, describing it as "a very good role", while also revealing that filming on season five will take place from this August to January 2022.

"Prince Andrew is one of the most unpopular members of the royal family and wannabe stars aren't exactly queuing up to play him," a source said.

"It's not the sexiest role and is unlikely to set a Hollywood career alight.

"However, it might work for a real scene-stealer character artist."

Season five of The Crown is not due for release on Netflix until late 2022, with the sixth and final season following in 2023.
