Mrs Brown's Boys will return for a bonus, live episode this Halloween, it is announced.

Mrs Brown's Boys will return for its first ever Halloween special, the BBC has announced.

The comedy - created by and starring Brendan O'Carroll - typically airs two specials every year at Christmas and New Year, but this year a bonus episode has been scheduled in for Halloween.

The extra episode will mark the show's 10th anniversary of being on the BBC, as well as the show's second live broadcast - following on from a live edition in summer 2016 which was seen by over 9 million viewers.

"It's a huge thrill to do another 'live' show for the BBC," said O'Carroll. "It'll be so wonderful so see them nervous all over again.

"We will be trying our best to stick to the script, but honestly a script is just a guideline, ha ha ha!! Bring it on!"

Charlotte Moore, the BBC's chief content officer, added: "I'm thrilled that we are marking the 10th anniversary of the award-winning Mrs Brown's Boys coming to BBC One with this very special live broadcast.

"A huge thank you to Brendan and the team for keeping us all so brilliantly entertained for a decade. I can't wait to see what mischief Agnes and family have in store for us this Halloween."

The Christmas and New Year episodes are expected to follow as usual later in the year.
