Holly Willoughby issues a statement on her former This Morning star Phillip Schofield after he admits to lying about an affair with a colleague.

Holly Willoughby has issued a statement following former This Morning colleague Phillip Schofield's exit from ITV.

The 61-year-old left the broadcaster with immediate effect on Saturday night after admitting that he had an affair with a runner on the daytime show - a male in his twenties - contrary to what he had told his bosses and colleagues, including Willoughby.

ITV said that it was "deeply disappointed" by Schofield's false "assurances", and now Willoughby had also criticised her presenting partner of 14 years.

Taking to Instagram tonight, she wrote: "It's taken time to process yesterday's news.

"When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not.

"It's been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie. Holly."

Willoughby will return to This Morning on Monday, June 5 alongside a series of guest presenters following Schofield's departure.
