HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys says that a decision on whether Mare of Easttown will return for a second season could be imminent.

HBO's chief content officer Casey Bloys has revealed that a decision on the future of Mare of Easttown could be made by the end of the month.

The drama, starring Kate Winslet as a detective working in a small Philadelphia town, was a critical and ratings success when it aired earlier this year.

Creator Brad Ingelsby originally wrote the show as a one-off miniseries but has been exploring possible storylines for a second season in conjunction with Winslet, who also serves as an executive producer.

"Brad and Kate and the producers are all talking to see if they think there's a place to go," Bloys told Variety.

"I think we'll hear from them in a couple of weeks if they think that it's a story worth telling, and they're excited by. I'm excited to hear and see what they have to say."

Mare of Easttown is up for an impressive 16 awards at this year's Emmys, which take place on Sunday night.
