Doctor Who's behind-the-scenes spinoff show will reportedly return next year.

Doctor Who Confidential will reportedly return next year when Russell T Davies's second era in charge of the show begins.

Davies - responsible for Doctor Who's comeback in 2005 - is returning as showrunner next year in time for the 60th anniversary.

The special episode will see David Tennant and Catherine Tate reprise their roles as The Doctor and Donna Noble, with Ncuti Gatwa then expected to take the reins and become the new Doctor.

In Davies's first stint in charge of the show, a spinoff show called Doctor Who Confidential aired on BBC Three but it was axed in 2012 during Steven Moffat's tenure.

According to The Mirror, the spinoff is being resurrected under the new name Doctor Who: Unleashed with presenter Steffan Powell for the new series.

A source told the newspaper: "Doctor Who Confidential was hugely popular amongst fans when Christopher Eccleston brought the show back as the Ninth Doctor and that continued during David's tenure in the TARDIS as the Tenth Doctor.

"Russell is aware that Doctor Who fans can never get enough content when it comes to the show and how it is made, with David and Catherine making a sensational return to the show, he thought the time was right to bring back a behind-the-scenes show which will document their comebacks and show how the special was made."

Jodie Whittaker's final episode as The Doctor is due to air this October.
