Mo Farah has won the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award for 2017.

The long-distance runner, who will now focus on marathon running after starring in successive Olympics, took the award ahead of motorcycle racer Jonathan Rea, who was the runner-up, and paralympic sprinter Jonnie Peacock, who came third.

Farah scooped the award following his appearance in the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, in which he won the 10,000m event and came second in the 5,000m.

Farah also starred five years ago in London at the 2012 Olympics, when the Team GB athlete won gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events.

Four years later, in Rio, Farah became the first Briton to win three athletic gold medals at the Olympics.

Also in the running for the award were Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who has scored 50 goals in 50 games in 2017, and swimmer Adam Peaty.
