Great Britain's Dan Evans produced a magnificent fightback to see off Francisco Cerundolo and reach the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open.

The 32-year-old recovered from a disappointing first set to prevail 2-6 7-5 6-3 in two hours and 10 minutes and set up a final-four showdown with number one seed Carlos Alcaraz.

Nerves perhaps got the better of both players, with three breaks in each of the first three games before Cerundolo held for a 3-1 lead, and the Argentine broke again in the seventh to assume control of the tie.

Evans brought up three break points in the eighth game of the first set, and despite squandering all of them to cede the opener, the Briton's pressure was a sign of things to come as he broke to love in the second game of the second set.

Cerundolo immediately responded with a break back, but the Argentine 12th seed capitulated in the 11th game on Evans's serve, wasting a 40-0 lead and missing another break point before being broken himself.

With the wind in his sails heading into the third set, Evans exploded out of the blocks with the double break for a 4-0 lead, and while he was broken while serving for the match, a final love hold punched the 32-year-old's ticket to his second clay semi-final of the month. body check tags ::
