Julen Lopetegui coy on goalkeeping position

Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui refuses to confirm whether Thibaut Courtois will soon become the club's number one goalkeeper.

Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui has refused to confirm whether Thibaut Courtois will soon become the club's number one goalkeeper.

Courtois moved to the Bernabeu from Chelsea earlier this summer, and had been expected to start the 2018-19 campaign as the Spanish club's first-choice stopper.

Keylor Navas has been selected for the club's first two La Liga games of the new season, however, and once again impressed in Madrid's 4-1 win over Girona on Sunday night.

Lopetegui has said that he has "three excellent goalkeepers" - including Kiko Casilla - and has offered no indication as to whether Courtois will soon be handed the gloves.

"We will see how the goalkeeper rotation evolves. I have three excellent goalkeepers and we see it as good solutions," Lopetegui told Movistar.

"Keylor has done very well and we will see what happens in the future. I have things in my head about goalkeepers but I'm going to say nothing."

Courtois played over 100 times in La Liga during a loan spell at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014.
