Sergio Ramos will reportedly be required to take a pay cut if he wishes to extend his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 36-year-old defender faces an uncertain future at the Parc des Princes as his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season.

Ramos brought an end to his trophy-laden 16-year career at Real Madrid when he joined PSG in the summer of 2021, but the Spaniard was hampered with injuries in his debut campaign and subsequently featured only 13 times in all tournaments.

However, Ramos has since become a first-team regular under manager Christophe Galtier this season, starting 32 of his 36 appearances across all competitions – only Gianluigi Donnarumma and Vitinha have featured on more occasions for the Parisian giants this term.

A report from last month claims that PSG are yet to decide whether to hand a new contract to Ramos, who is believed to be earning around £225,000 per week.

A separate report states that the reigning Ligue 1 champions have decided to put contract talks with both Ramos and star forward Lionel Messi – who is also out of contract this summer – on hold amid concerns over breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

Now, Sport claims that PSG are unwilling to offer Ramos a new deal on his current terms, and the defender will need to take a pay cut if he wishes to continue at the Parc des Princes next season.

The report adds that Ramos has been able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs since January, with teams in Saudi Arabia and the MLS both keen to lure him away from Paris.

After PSG lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie last month, Ramos suggested that talks over his future will likely take place at the end of the season.

Speaking to RMC Sport, Ramos said: "I live day by day. Last season was very hard – now I feel good both physically and mentally, that is the most important. I don't think about the future. We will see this summer."

Should Ramos fail to agree fresh terms with PSG and leave the club for free in June, the Parisian side already have a defensive replacement lined up as they have agreed to sign Milan Skriniar when his contract with Inter Milan expires at the end of the season.

PSG have also been credited with an interest in Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres, who is allegedly admired by football advisor Luis Campos.

Torres, who has made 161 appearances for the Yellow Submarine since making his senior debut in 2017, was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, but a big-money switch to Old Trafford failed to materialise for the 26-year-old.

While the long-term futures of Ramos and Messi are believed to be uncertain, Brazilian forward Neymar is reportedly preparing to retire at PSG despite continuous links with a possible exit.
