Newcastle United looking to set club record in Crystal Palace game

Newcastle United will be bidding to set a new club record when they play Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

The Magpies are currently enjoying their best Premier League campaign for a decade, holding a five-point advantage in the race for next season's Champions League.

Eddie Howe's side had been occupying second or third position in recent months until Manchester United's resurgence recently led to them overtaking the North East giants.

However, after two draws versus Leeds United and Arsenal, Newcastle got back to winning ways last weekend with a 1-0 victory over Fulham courtesy of an 89th-minute winner.

While Newcastle survived a missed penalty from the Cottagers to prevail from that game, they have now gone 14 matches in the top flight without suffering a defeat.

Should they win or draw at Selhurst Park this weekend, Newcastle will set their longest-ever unbeaten streak in their top-flight history.

Newcastle's only defeat in the Premier League this season came on August 31 when Liverpool netted a 97th-minute goal to win 2-1 at Anfield.

Their strong defensive record is also in their favour ahead of this game with just six goals being conceded in their last 12 top-flight games versus the Eagles.

Furthermore, the two teams have already squared off twice during 2022-23, the Premier League and EFL Cup fixtures at St James' Park both ending goalless.

Thirty years have passed by since two top-flight teams played out three goalless draws in the same season, that occurring with Everton and Wimbledon in 1992-93.

Newcastle have already earned seven points from their three fixtures in London this campaign, posting wins at Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur before the goalless draw at Arsenal on January 2.
