How the Netherlands could line up against Latvia

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how the Netherlands could line up for their World Cup qualification clash with Latvia on Saturday.

Netherlands manager Frank de Boer has plenty to ponder when it comes to team selection for his side's second game of World Cup qualification against Latvia on Saturday evening.

Norwich City's Tim Krul did not cover himself in glory in between the sticks against Turkey - shipping four goals on the night - but he seems certain to reprise his role given the injury to Jasper Cillessen in the warm-up.

However, letting in a quartet of goals is good reason for change in the rearguard, and while Matthijs de Ligt and Daley Blind are unable to lose their places in the heart of defence, Kenny Tete's spot at right-back is under threat from Denzel Dumfries.

Davy Klaassen had only been on the pitch for six minutes before netting his side's first goal in midweek, and the Ajax man could therefore be rewarded with a start over Marten de Roon, who lasted just over an hour on the night.

Klaassen's Ajax teammate and teenage protege Ryan Gravenberch is pushing for a start in midfield, but Frenkie de Jong should be in no danger of losing his place, while Donny van de Beek's frustrations on the bench are likely to continue.

Georginio Wijnaldum is set to continue further forward as he aims to build on the 21 goals he has struck for the national team, while Memphis Depay - who also boasts the same number of strikes - could be shifted out wide in place of Donyell Malen.

Depay moving to the left would allow Luuk de Jong the chance to build on his consolation goal against Turkey, while Steven Berghuis will attempt to find the back of the net for the first time at the 23rd attempt for the Netherlands.

Netherlands possible starting lineup:
Krul; Dumfries, De Ligt, Blind, Wijndal; F. De Jong, Klaassen; Berghuis, Wijnaldum, Depay; L. De Jong body check tags ::
