McMahon tips Liverpool to sign Maddison

Steve McMahon has suggested that Leicester City midfielder James Maddison will follow in the footsteps of Harry Maguire and move to a bigger club in the near future. United, who poached Maguire from the Foxes over the summer in a £80m deal, are said to be interested in him but McMahon thinks he may be destined for Anfield.

"I just wonder, there comes a time and this is no disrespect to Leicester, I wonder if Maddison will make a decision like Maguire and think 'do I go for the medals, do I go for the cash?'" McMahon told Stadium Astro. "I don't think he's going to be at Leicester for a long, long time. I really don't. I think Maddison has another level to go. I think there's a top team, if it's not Liverpool then United maybe, they'll be in for him. He can only get better."

Huddersfield tracking Nigerian striker?

Huddersfield Town are keeping tabs on Nigerian striker Emeka Eze with a view to signing him in January, according to Fotospor. The 23-year-old plays for Sturm Graz but is currently on loan with Turkish side Adanaspor.

Owen Hargreaves: 'Long time to fix problems at United'

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has said that it will take "a long time" to fix the problems at the club. A 1-0 defeat at troubled Newcastle United on Sunday capped a poor start to the season which has seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side take just nine points from their opening eight league games.

"Rashford is struggling for confidence, we're not sure if he's a No.9. Fred, I feel sorry for him because he's struggling in a United shirt," Hargreaves told Optus Sport after the game. "You've got so many people in positions, which aren't even their own... Ashley Young was playing left-back. The only bright spark I'd say today was Tuanzebe. I thought he played really well. But the rest is so far off what you'd expect. I feel sorry for United fans because this will take a long time to fix."

Ederson: 'Laporte injury hurting City'

Manchester City keeper Ederson has claimed that the loss of Aymeric Laporte to a serious knee injury, plus the ongoing absence of John Stones, is hurting them on the pitch. Pep Guardiola's side were stunned last weekend as Wolverhampton Wanderers claimed a 2-0 victory at the Etihad, leaving the current champions eight points adrift of Liverpool in the Premier League table.

"It's very difficult for a team like us having injuries, especially if they all happen in the same position on the pitch," Ederson is quoted as saying by The Sun. "We all know about the amazing quality of Aymeric and how good he is in the build-up phase. Of course we are missing him. We have other great players who can replace him in that position. Unfortunately, with the injury to John Stones, we have only one natural centre-back.

"It's never great news to be too far from the top of the table. But I think the championship has barely started. Anything can happen."

Dele Alli hires personal nutritionist

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has hired his own nutritionist in an attempt to cure him of ongoing injury woes, according to The Mirror. The 23-year-old has been out injured four times in the last 18 months with hamstring injuries but has now adopted a high-protein diet as part of a strategy to stop the problem recurring. Alli is also said to have taken up yoga.

Erik ten Hag to replace Marco Silva?

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly top of Everton's wishlist should they decide to sack Marco Silva in the near future. Silva's future looks increasingly uncertain following the Toffees' poor start to the season, which has seen them win just twice in the league, and The Sun says that director of football Marcel Brands has identified Ten Hag as a first-choice replacement.

Laurent Blanc in Lyon frame?

Former Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has emerged as a contender to take over at Lyon after the club decided to sack Sylvinho earlier this week. According to L'Equipe, the French side are looking for an experienced hand to get their season back on track and Blanc - out of work for more than three years - is their top target.

Argentine footballer dies, aged 23

Argentine footballer Ezequiel Esperon has died at the age of 23 after falling from a sixth-floor terrace during a party. The former Internacional and Gremio midfielder is believed to have leaned on a railing that was not properly closed, causing him to fall.
