Manchester United: 'Completed 2019-20 season has to be priority'

Manchester United say that completing the current domestic and European campaigns should be made "a priority".

Manchester United have acknowledged that they wish to complete their current domestic and European campaigns as soon as possible.

As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, no fixtures will take place until April 4 at the earliest, with the realistic possibility of a longer break being enforced in the coming weeks.

However, after the announcement that Euro 2020 would be delayed by a year, United want to fulfil their fixtures in the Premier League and Europa League, rather than the rest of the season get scrapped.

A club statement read: "We note the decision to postpone UEFA Euro 2020 to hopefully allow domestic and European competitions to come to a conclusion as a priority.

"Clearly coronavirus has created an unprecedented set of circumstances and the health and well-being of fans, players and staff has to come first. We will continue to play an active role in discussions through UEFA, the ECA [European Clubs Association] and the Premier League and we will monitor developments closely."

United currently sit in fifth position in England's top flight, while they are on the brink of progressing through to the last-eight stage of the Europa League.
