Manchester United reportedly intend to be proactive with negotiating a new contract with Marcus Rashford.

During 2021-22, there was frequent speculation that the academy graduate may be allowed to depart Old Trafford after enduring the worst run of his professional career.

Having netted just five times from 32 appearances in all competitions, there was a perception that a parting of the ways may suit all parties, particularly with Rashford's contract continuing to run down.

However, the 25-year-old has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance since the arrival of Erik ten Hag, contributing seven goals and three assists from his 15 outings in the Premier League and Europa League.

Rashford also scored his 100th goal for the club on Sunday as United registered a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League.

The forward's current current is due to expire at the end of the season, although United do possess the option of activating a 12-month option.

According to the Daily Mail, club officials intend to use that clause or negotiate fresh terms with the attacker.

Rashford is currently in a position where he is just two months away from being able to hold discussions with foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement.

The report suggests that Paris Saint-Germain have continued to monitor the situation after initially expressing an interest earlier this year.

Nevertheless, it appears highly likely that United will prevent any talks from happening, even if time runs out to get a long-term contract over the line courtesy of the World Cup.

While there is no certainty that Rashford will be included in Gareth Southgate's 26-man England squad, his form and versatility could work in his favour over another candidates.

Rashford commented last week on recapturing his enjoyment for the sport, being quoted by PA as saying: "I feel like I'm getting there. But, yeah, I'm a lot more happy, I'm enjoying myself a lot more.

"I'm just looking forward to the games. The manager's a joy to work with, really. Is it hard work? Yeah, but I think we are enjoying it and we're playing better football."

Rashford will expect to start when United play Real Sociedad in a crucial Europa League fixture on Thursday night, the English side requiring a win in Spain to progress as group winners.
