Juventus reportedly emerge as the latest club to consider a move for Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams in 2023.

Juventus are reportedly giving consideration to making an approach for Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams.

Since the arrival of Ernesto Valverde at San Mames, the 20-year-old has established himself as a key player at the Spanish side.

A total of three goals and three assists have come in La Liga during 2022-23, Williams starting all but one of Bilbao's 14 matches.

With his club challenging for a place in next season's Champions League, every effort will naturally be made to retain the player's services on a long-term basis.

However, as it stands, Williams has just over 19 months remaining on his contract, leading to speculation regarding his future.

In recent weeks, Liverpool and Manchester United have both been credited with an interest in the prospect, the former said to have scouts in attendance at the ongoing World Cup.

Williams only made his debut for Spain in September, but he has now received five caps, coming on as a substitute in each of La Roja's opening two matches.

According to AS, Juventus are also monitoring any developments with the situation as they contemplate their options in the market for 2023.

Juventus only sit in third position in the Serie A standings due to a six-match winning streak ahead of the World Cup, the club having also been eliminated from the Champions League.

With Massimiliano Allegri having saved his job for the foreseeable future, plans are now being made regarding January in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

From Bilbao's perspective, it is acknowledged that they are ready to do everything possible to retain the services of one of their star men.

Officials at Los Leones allegedly want to hold discussions after the conclusion of the World Cup, aware that Williams possesses a release clause in the region of €50m (£43.2m).

Although a bid of that size is more likely to be made in the summer than in the middle of the season, it still leaves Bilbao at risk of being powerless should Williams continue on his upward trajectory. body check tags ::
