Jamie Carragher: 'Manchester United should be looking to sell Paul Pogba'

Jamie Carragher urges Manchester United to sell unsettled midfielder Paul Pogba as soon as possible.

Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher has said that Paul Pogba 'is not a great player' and has urged Manchester United to "move him on" as soon as possible.

The 27-year-old has largely failed to make his mark for the Red Devils since returning to the club from Juventus in 2016 and his form in the early stages of the current season has been disappointing.

The France international has found himself out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first XI in recent weeks, and a recent report claimed that United would be willing to sell him for £54m next summer.

Carragher has said that the 20-time English champions should be looking to part with the midfielder before his current deal expires in the summer of 2022.

"He's possibly never done well in any position or tactical set up that different managers have had," Carragher told talkSPORT. "Would I pick him in the Manchester United team? No, I wouldn't. He's a huge name, he's come for a huge transfer fee, but I don't think he's a great player.

"People say he's won the World Cup and I get that. But when he came in I thought he might have the impact like [Frank] Lampard at Chelsea, [Steven] Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – those players drove their team to titles, European Cups.

"When you're that man who's seen as the one to take United to the next level, which people might say it's too much pressure to put on one man, but that's what we were told was coming. It just hasn't happened for him at Manchester United. For me, I'd be looking to move him on."

Real Madrid are allegedly considering a move for the World Cup winner next summer, while Juve continue to be credited with an interest in their former player.
