Bayern Munich CEO Karl Heinz-Rummenigge confirms that the club are interested in RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano, whose £37m buyout clause becomes active in the summer.

Bayern Munich chief Karl Heinz-Rummenigge has confirmed that the club are interested in RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano.

The 22-year-old is being tipped to head to the Bavarian giants as a replacement for David Alaba, who is expected to join Real Madrid as a free agent this summer.

Upamecano is understood to have a €42m (£37m) buyout clause in his Leipzig contract which will become active in the summer, inevitably leading to an intense battle for his services.

Now, Rummenigge has affirmed that the French defender is a target for Bayern, telling Sport Bild: "We will of course deal with it, not only with this player, but in principle with all the positions where we want and need to do something."

When asked if a deal could be agreed soon, Rummenigge responded: "It's too early for something like that, he's still a Leipzig player at least until the end of the season. But it's common knowledge that he has a clause in his contract."

Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be keeping a close eye on the France international's situation.
