Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Luke Shaw's contract situation at Manchester United with a view to potentially moving for the left-back next year.

The 27-year-old lost his starting role at Old Trafford earlier this season following two lacklustre performances against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

However, he managed to secure a return to the side in the early stages of October, with Tyrell Malacia dropping down to the bench after a spell in the first XI.

Shaw has also been a starter for England at the 2022 World Cup, with the former Southampton youngster lining up on the left side of the defence.

The full-back has now been with Man United for more than eight years, featuring on 228 occasions for the club, contributing three goals and 24 assists in the process.

This season, he has contributed one assist in 10 Premier League appearances, in addition to one assist in five outings in the group stage of the Europa League.

However, there is currently uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford, with his current deal due to expire next June.

Man United do have the option of activating a 12-month extension, while the club are said to be keen to open talks over a potential new long-term agreement.

As it stands, though, foreign clubs would be able to hold talks with Shaw in January, and according to Sport, Barcelona are weighing up a move for the Englishman.

The report claims that Xavi's side view Shaw as the ideal left-back acquisition, with Jordi Alba potentially leaving the club next year in search of pastures new.

Alejandro Balde has been a regular for Barcelona this season and is currently in advanced discussions with the Catalan outfit over a new long-term agreement.

Marcos Alonso was also signed over the summer to boost the team's left-back options, although the Spaniard has been used as a central defender on a number of occasions this term.

Alba's departure would put Barcelona in the market for another left-sided full-back, and Shaw has seemingly emerged as a genuine target due to his contract situation.

The La Liga giants are also believed to be considering moves for Diogo Dalot and Fred, with the duo's contracts with the 20-time English champions expiring next June. body check tags ::
