Jose Mourinho "happy" with Manchester United display

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho claims that his team "lost motivation" in the second half of their International Champions Cup match with Real Madrid.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that the Red Devils "lost motivation" in the second half of their International Champions Cup match with Real Madrid, but the Portuguese was "happy" with his team's display.

Sunday night's friendly at the Levi's Stadium went to a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time, and it was United that won 2-1 on spot kicks to continue their impressive pre-season form.

Both managers made a host of changes for the second 45 minutes, and Mourinho has conceded that his team "lost intensity" after the break as they conceded an equaliser in the 69th minute.

"Good training [for us]. It was a very good first half against a top Real side. I think we lost motivation to play against their young players. We lost intensity, we lost appetite," Mourinho told MUTV.

"I think the boys who played in the second half, they were disappointed not to play against Real Madrid's best players and best team. The second half was not good but overall I am happy again."

Next up for United is a clash with Spanish giants Barcelona on Wednesday night.
