Joey Barton banned from playing in Grenfell Tower game

Joey Barton reveals that he has been prohibited from playing in a charity match for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster due to his ongoing ban from football.

Joey Barton has revealed that he will be unable to play in a match to raise funds for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster due to his ongoing ban from football.

The 34-year-old was initially handed an 18-month ban by the Football Association due to breaches of its betting rules, although yesterday that punishment was reduced to 13 months.

However, as the 'Game4Grenfell' is an FA-sanctioned match, the former Burnley skipper will be unable to participate as part of his suspension.

The 'Game4Grenfell' will take place at Loftus Road on September 2, 2017.
