Manchester United hit with FA charge following conduct against Chelsea

The Football Association charge Manchester United for failing to control their players in the latter stages of the clash with Chelsea.

The Football Association have charged Manchester United for allegedly 'failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion' in the latter stages of Saturday's clash with Chelsea.

The Blues were awarded a penalty in the final stages of the match at Stamford Bridge, with Scott McTominay penalised for pulling fellow substitute Armando Broja to the ground.

Several Man United players protested to referee Stuart Attwell, who gave the penalty relatively quickly, and the conduct has led to the 20-time English champions being hit with an FA charge.

"Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October in the Premier League," read a statement.

''Manchester United FC allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response."

"Each Affiliated Association, Competition and Club shall be responsible for ensuring that its Directors, players, officials, employees, servants, representatives, conduct themselves in an orderly fashion whilst attending any Match and do not use words or otherwise behave in a way which is improper, offensive, violent, threatening, abusive, indecent, insulting or provocative," reads the rule allegedly breached.

Man United were hit with a similar charge following an incident one week earlier against Newcastle United, with the players protesting after Cristiano Ronaldo's goal had been disallowed.

"I don't think it was too strong. It wasn't really aggressive but I don't know what's happening exactly on the pitch, I was too far away. I saw it back on the video," Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag said after the goalless draw with Newcastle.

"There was a touch from the Newcastle player, quite clear, and they went to the referee to ask about it. I want to express that we have always accepted the referee's decisions.

"Quite normal that you ask why in the moment. It was a curious incident. My view is that quickly you have to accept the ref's decision, there is VAR, you accept and move on."

Jorginho's late penalty appeared to be securing all the points for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but Casemiro came up with a last-gasp equaliser in the English capital.

Man United have now picked up eight points from their four league games since the Manchester derby, beating Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, in addition to drawing with Newcastle and Chelsea.

The 20-time English champions currently have their focus on the Europa League, with Sheriff Tiraspol their opponents at Old Trafford in the European competition on Thursday night.

The Red Devils will then be back in Premier League action against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon, while they will also face Aston Villa and Fulham in the league before the season breaks for the World Cup. body check tags ::
