David de Gea 'two mistakes from being dropped by Manchester United'

David de Gea is 'two mistakes from getting dropped' by Manchester United with Dean Henderson waiting in the wings, according to a report.

David de Gea is reportedly 'two mistakes from getting dropped' by Manchester United as Dean Henderson continues to wait for his chance in the Premier League.

Henderson returned to Old Trafford over the summer to provide competition for De Gea, who has struggled to show his best form at club and international level over the last 18 months or so.

The Spain international has thus far kept his spot as the number one goalkeeper, but Henderson has made a strong impression in his two EFL Cup appearances this term.

De Gea is again expected to get the nod between the sticks against Newcastle United on Saturday night, but according to The Independent, the former Atletico Madrid youngster is 'two mistakes from getting dropped'.

Henderson excelled during his two seasons on loan at Sheffield United and is now putting serious pressure on De Gea, who signed a new and lucrative contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side last September.

The 20-time English champions will be looking to bounce back from their 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur when they travel to St James' Park this weekend.
