Manchester United attacker Antony is confident that he can play a part in helping the club return to former glories, as the Red Devils go in search of their first trophy since 2017.

The 20-time English champions will take on Newcastle United in the final of the EFL Cup on Sunday, and the club will be bidding to win their first piece of silverware since the Europa League six years ago.

Man United are also still in the FA Cup and Europa League, while they are third in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Arsenal.

Antony has said that his main goal is to 'help the club return to where it belongs', and the Brazilian has said that it would be "a dream" to win a trophy in his first season at the club.

"When I came here, I said that Manchester United is a huge club and we're going to put this club back where it belongs – fighting for and winning trophies," Antony told MUTV.

"We know that it'll be a tough task, but we're aware of how big we are as a club and how good we are. It'll be a dream come true, in my first season, if we can win a trophy. I hope that I can keep at this so more glory follows.

"I'm really excited. I was talking to my mates at home about this, it's going to be my first time there. It'll be a huge day for me, I can't wait for this day to come around.

"Your first final in your first season is always going to be special."

The summer arrival from Ajax also had a message for the Man United fans ahead of the final.

"I'd like to say to them [the fans] to keep on supporting us and believing in us. Obviously our fans never give anything less than 100% in all of our games, they're always there for us," he added.

"They need to keep at this as it's really important for us to feed off their energy and have them there. When we're on the pitch we feel like we've got an extra gear, so we want them to keep believing in us because we're always fighting for them."

The 23-year-old has scored six goals and registered one assist in 24 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, including the winner against Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Antony, who has recently been on the sidelines through injury, appeared as a half-time substitute against Barcelona and will now be hoping to return to the starting side against Eddie Howe's team. body check tags ::
