West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed that Jarrod Bowen is a doubt for Sunday's Premier League clash away at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old missed the Hammers' narrow 1-0 Europa Conference League victory at home against Silkeborg on Thursday night due to an ankle injury.

Moyes has since revealed that the attacker has been training on the grass, but he will be assessed ahead of Sunday's trip to Old Trafford.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Moyes said: "We need to see how Jarrod is. We need to see if he can do many things. We need to see if he can twist and turn – all the other parts that come [with playing football].

"Every club is the same with the amount of fixtures, there are always chances there are injuries or knocks. But hopefully, we have come through last night not too bad."

One player who West Ham will be without this weekend is attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury which he sustained in the 1-1 draw with Southampton two weeks ago.

The 25-year-old Brazil international is currently a doubt for the World Cup in Qatar, but Moyes has claimed that he could return to the Hammers squad at some stage next week.

On Thursday, West Ham were boosted by the return of summer signing Nayef Aguerd, who started and played for 76th minutes at centre-back on his long-awaited competitive debut for the club.

West Ham have five more fixtures across all competitions, including three in the Premier League, before the World Cup break, and Moyes suggested after Thursday's win over Silkeborg that Aguerd could feature again for the Hammers in the next couple of weeks.

"I was really pleased for Nayef. It was a good game for him to play in," the Scotsman told reporters. "There wasn't a great deal of contact and we had a lot of the ball, and he's a comfortable footballer.

"The physical side and the fitness are still to come a bit, and he's got to get used to the Premier League. He needs a little bit of time to adapt, and we'll give him that. I thought he did really well to play the best part of 75 minutes tonight."

West Ham head into Sunday's contest in good form after winning eight and drawing one of their last 11 matches across all competitions.

The Hammers secured a slender 1-0 triumph in their last visit to Old Trafford in last season's EFL Cup third round, but Moyes insists that it is "always a tough game" when facing Man United.

"Going away to Old Trafford – for anybody – is always a tough game. They have got some excellent players and we will have to play well there," the former Red Devils boss added.

"But we've got good players as well. And I think we are finding a little bit of form. We could do with finishing a little bit better – but overall I am really pleased with how we are doing."

West Ham, who beat Bournemouth 2-0 on home soil in their last Premier League game, currently sit 10th in the table, six points behind Man United in sixth place who also have a game in hand. body check tags ::
