Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has provided an update on his recovery from an ankle injury.

Eriksen joined the Red Devils on a free transfer last summer after leaving Brentford following the expiration of his contract.

Since arriving at the club, Eriksen has scored two goals and provided nine assists across 31 appearances in all competitions.

However, the Denmark international has been out of action since picking up an ankle injury in January's FA Cup victory over Reading.

Eriksen recently posted a series of photos on Instagram, which showed him progressing from wearing a protective boot to trainers and now to football boots.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man was recently asked about the Instagram post and his rehabilitation in an episode of the UTD Podcast series, which will be released next month.

"Yeah, it is going well," Eriksen said. "I have just started being outside as you saw [on Instagram] with football boots on.

"And then we take it from there, that is the next step. I have been in the gym for some weeks now and now it is time to do the next rehab session outside."

Eriksen is hopeful that he can still play a role for Man United this season, and he also revealed that his experience has allowed him to cope positively with his injury setback.

"I think earlier in my career I would have taken it a lot harder than I do now," the 31-year-old added. "You learn later on that it's just part of your career. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you are not.

"With this one particularly, when I can't do anything myself, when somebody came on to me, the mindset is just getting back as soon as possible in a healthy, strong way and not to get any setbacks."

The Red Devils, who won the EFL Cup last month, are still involved in the FA Cup and Europa League, and they will be keen to claim more silverware in Erik ten Hag's first season in charge.

Man United are also looking to qualify for the Champions League, and they went into the international break in third position - three points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle United.

Incidentally, Ten Hag's side will begin a busy April schedule with an away trip to St James' Park to face Newcastle on Sunday.
