Manchester United have confirmed that Thursday's Europa League group fixture with Sheriff Tiraspol will go ahead as planned.

There had been some doubt over the fixture, with the latest set of Premier League matches being postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

However, the 20-time English champions have revealed that the European contest will take place in Moldova next week.

"Following discussions with the relevant governing bodies and in line with guidance issued by the UK Government, we can confirm our UEFA Europa League fixture against FC Sheriff will take place as scheduled on Thursday evening in Moldova," read a statement on Man United's official website.

"Match arrangements will remain the same for fans who are travelling to support the team in Chisinau."

Man United have won their last four Premier League matches against Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester City and Arsenal during an impressive run of domestic form.

However, the Red Devils lost their Europa League opener against Real Sociedad on Thursday night, going down 1-0 at Old Trafford, with Brais Mendez netting a controversial penalty in the Group E fixture.

Man United had been due to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, but the game has been postponed as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II.

"At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," read a statement from the Premier League confirming the postponement of the fixtures.

"To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend's Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening's game.

"Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course."

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters added: "We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty's long and unwavering service to our country.

"As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.

"This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing."

As it stands, Man United are due to take on Leeds United in the Premier League next weekend, but the contest could also allegedly be called off in line with the Queen's state funeral.
