Manchester City have allegedly been told that they will have to come up with a contract offer of £500,000 a week after tax in order to stand a chance of signing Lionel Messi this summer.

As it stands, Messi will be leaving Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of June, but there have been strong suggestions that the Argentina international is now open to signing a new deal at Camp Nou.

There has not yet been an official decision on the attacker's future, though, and Man City are thought to be keeping a close eye on the developments surrounding the South American.

According to The Sun, the Premier League champions would have to offer Messi a £500,000-a-week contract after tax in order to convince the 33-year-old to move to the Etihad Stadium.

The report claims that the attacker would be open to penning a one-year deal with Pep Guardiola's side, with the option of a further 12 months.

Messi has again been in strong form at club level during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring 37 goals and registering 14 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions. body check tags ::
