Who is Liverpool target Milot Rashica?

:Headline: Who is Liverpool target Milot Rashica?: ID:395269: from db_amp
With Liverpool currently being linked with Milot Rashica, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the Werder Bremen forward.

Despite generally being in free-scoring form for much of the last two years, Liverpool continue to be linked with attacking additions ahead of the next transfer window.

While Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are said to be on Jurgen Klopp's radar, the latest reports have suggested that Werder Bremen forward Milot Rashica is also high on the German's shortlist.

Despite Bremen sitting eight points adrift of safety in the Bundesliga, the 23-year-old has put together one of the strongest campaigns of his career for club and country.

As the Merseyside giants seemingly weigh up an approach for the versatile attacker, Sports Mole takes a look at what the Premier League leaders would be getting for their money if they were able to push through a £33m deal.

Where does he play?

To have a realistic chance of becoming a part of Klopp's first-team squad, you need to be able to play in a number of positions, especially in attack when opportunities only tend to arise as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino.

However, Rashica fits the bill. Although the majority of his appearances have come from the left flank this season, he has also had success playing down the opposite flank and through the centre.

Background

While Rashica spent his early days back in Kosovo, he was not without offers to move abroad. After missing out on a switch to Gent and Hannover, Rashica finally penned a three-year contract with Vitesse as an 18-year-old back in 2014.

Although he initially spent time in the youth team, Rashica eventually established himself as a key man at the Dutch club, scoring 15 goals from his 100 appearances in all competitions.

Since January 2018, the playmaker has spent his time in Bremen. Although it took time for the prospect to find his feet playing at a bigger club, 12 goals were netted from 30 outings during the last campaign.

How has he performed this season?

Rashica has only built on his form from the previous season, contributing seven goals and four assists from 20 matches in the Bundesliga, with a further three goals coming in the DFB-Pokal.

However, the majority of his goal contributions came before the end of 2019 with just one goal and one assist being recorded from his last 11 appearances.

International experience?

With Kosovo not being accepted as a playing nation by UEFA and FIFA until 2015 and 2016 respectively, it appears that Rashica's international career would be spent representing Albania.

A total of 12 caps were earned with the Under-17s, Under-19s and Under-21s before making two appearances for the senior team in 2016.

However, Rashica is now a key part of Kosovo's improving squad, contributing four goals from 27 outings for the country of his birth.

Each of those strikes came in UEFA Nations League and Euro 2020 qualifiers, putting Kosovo into contention for their first-ever appearance at a major tournament.

Is he likely to feature in the starting lineup?

Given the frequent injuries sustained by Xherdan Shaqiri, there is every chance that Rashica is regarded as a direct replacement for the Switzerland international.

However, taking on that role in the squad would see him largely used as an alternative to Salah, Mane and Firmino, rather than featuring in the starting lineup on a regular basis.
