Jurgen Klopp 'retains full backing of Liverpool owners'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly continues to be fully backed by the club's owners amid their miserable Premier League season.

The Reds are still without a top-flight win in the current calendar year and lost their third successive Premier League away game on Saturday, going down 3-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That Molineux humbling followed 3-1 and 3-0 defeats to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively in January, as well as a drab goalless stalemate with fellow strugglers Chelsea.

With over half of the season gone, Klopp's men are languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table and are 11 points off the top four - albeit with a game in hand on Newcastle United.

Not since Wout Faes's pair of own goals for Leicester City have Liverpool won a Premier League match - edging the Foxes 2-1 in December - and seventh-placed Brentford are also four points clear of Klopp's men having played a game more.

Furthermore, the Reds' EFL Cup and FA Cup title defences ended at the hands of Manchester City and Brighton respectively, but they are still alive in the Champions League and will face Real Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 clash on February 21.

Klopp only signed a new deal with Liverpool until 2026 last year, but he was subjected to chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" by Wolves fans over the weekend.

However, The Athletic states that there is "no chance" of Klopp being given the boot by the Reds' owners Fenway Sports Group, who are fully behind the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

The report adds that Klopp will be trusted to lead a significant summer of change no matter what transpires between now and the end of the season, unless he opts to step down from his position.

A shock resignation is highly unlikely, though, as Klopp attempts to restore Liverpool to their former glories after overseen a trophy-laden period between 2019 and 2022.

The German guided Liverpool to their first-ever Premier League title in 2020, one year after securing the Reds' sixth Champions League crown with victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

Liverpool completed an FA Cup and EFL Cup double under Klopp last term, and the 55-year-old also has a Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield in the cabinet.

Named the World's Best Club Coach in 2019 and 2020, Klopp has now taken charge of 411 games for Liverpool since arriving in 2015, posting 254 wins, 84 draws and 73 defeats.

A daunting period of upcoming fixtures for Liverpool sees them welcome Everton to Anfield for next Monday's Merseyside derby before a trip to Champions League chasers Newcastle on February 18.

The Reds then host Real Madrid - who beat them in the Champions League final last season - on February 21, and Manchester United will be the next team to visit Anfield on March 5. body check tags ::
