Japan will attempt to record consecutive victories when they welcome Peru to the Panasonic Stadium Suita for a friendly on Tuesday.

The visitors are also looking to claim a second straight win after beating South Korea 1-0 in their most recent outing.

Match preview

Japan were unable to pick up a victory during the March international window, playing out a 1-1 draw with Uruguay before losing 2-1 to Colombia.

The Samurai Blue returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion in Thursday's friendly against El Salvador, who were reduced to 10 men in the third minute.

Goals from Shogo Taniguchi, Ayase Ueda, Take Kubo and Ritsu Doan gave Japan a commanding 4-0 lead at half time before Keito Nakamura and Kyogo Furuhashi found the net in the second period to round off a comfortable win.

Incidentally, it was the first time that Japan had won a friendly by a six-goal margin since they thrashed Honduras 6-0 in November 2014.

After claiming their first win of the calendar year, Japan will be hoping to record consecutive victories when they face Peru for the first time since June 2011.

Since being appointed Peru boss in August 2022, Juan Reynoso has overseen four wins, one draw and two defeats in his seven games in charge.

After losing to Germany and drawing with Morocco in March, Peru ended their brief winless spell in Friday's friendly against South Korea.

Bryan Reyna gave the South Americans an 11th-minute lead in Busan, and it proved to be a decisive goal, as Peru held onto their narrow advantage to clinch a 1-0 victory.

Having lost just two of their last 10 friendlies (W6, D2), La Blanquirroja will head into Tuesday's encounter in a positive mood.

After failing to win their last two meetings with Japan, Peru are aiming to claim their first victory over the Samurai Blue since May 2005.

Team News

Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu could be tempted to make a change in goal, with Daniel Schmidt in contention to replace Keisuke Osako.

Hiroki Ito, Wataru Endo and Daichi Kamada are also expected to be brought into the starting lineup for Tuesday's encounter.

After coming off the bench to score his fourth international goal on Thursday, Kyogo could be given the chance to lead the line.

As for the visitors, Luis Advincula and Andy Polo were originally called up by Reynoso, but the pair were unable to join the squad due to injury issues.

After serving a one-match suspension, Carlos Zambrano is expected to feature in the starting lineup on Tuesday.

Gianluca Lapadula has linked up with the squad after helping Cagliari win promotion to Serie A via the playoffs, and the experienced forward is set to lead the line.

Japan possible starting lineup:
Schmidt; Sugawara, Itakura, Taniguchi, H. Ito; Endo, Morita; Kubo, Kamada, Mitoma; Kyogo

Peru possible starting lineup:
Gallese; Lora, Zambrano, Santamaria, Trauco; Cartagena, Aquino; Cueva, Gonzales, Reyna; Lapadula

We say: Japan 1-1 Peru

Both countries will head into Tuesday's friendlies in high spirits after claiming victories last week, but with just one place separating the two nations in the FIFA World Rankings, we think that they could cancel one another out, resulting in the contest finishing all square.
