Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Chesterfield and Woking, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Promotion rivals Chesterfield and Woking will do battle at the Technique Stadium on Tuesday, with a solitary point separating the teams in the National League table.

Boasting two games in hand, fourth-placed Chesterfield sit just below third-placed Woking, with both sides positioned comfortably inside the playoff spots.

Match preview

Chesterfield head into Tuesday's showdown on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Boreham Wood, meaning they have lost each of their previous two National League outings without scoring a goal.

Following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Barnet at the end of January, the Spireites will be eager to get back on track, having set the foundations for a promotion push.

Paul Cook's men enjoyed a run of one defeat in 11 league games between October and January, picking up nine victories during that period, with two four-game winning streaks helping to cement their place in the top seven.

Having displayed their promotion credentials for much of the campaign, Chesterfield will be confident of returning to winning ways on Tuesday, but they will not have it all their own way against Woking.

Indeed, the Cardinals have lost just seven of their 28 National League matches this season, securing 16 wins and five draws in the process, while they also boast one of the best defensive records in the division.

Only three teams have conceded fewer goals than Woking's 27, while only two goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets than Craig Ross's 10, highlighting the team's defensive prowess.

Like Chesterfield, Woking enjoyed an impressive run between October and January, claiming 10 wins in 13 league matches, but they have also endured a difficult period of late, taking a single point from their past two outings.

After drawing 1-1 with Torquay United, Woking lost 1-0 to Eastleigh last time out, so Darren Sarll will be looking for a big response from his players on Tuesday.

Team News

Having suffered a setback in his bid to return to full fitness following a knee operation, Chesterfield midfielder Manny Oyeleke will remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.

With eight goals to his name, winger Jeff King is Chesterfield's top scorer this season, so he will continue to offer attacking support to striker Joe Quigley.

Goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen joined Woking earlier this month, as Ethan Wady returned to Chelsea following his loan spell at the club, although Ross is expected to keep his place between the sticks.

Padraig Amond will aim to maintain his impressive form in front of goal, having netted seven goals across his previous 14 league appearances.

Chesterfield possible starting lineup:
Covolan; Sheckleford, Palmer, Grimes, Horton; Dobra, Banks, Mandeville, Oldaker, Colclough; Quigley

Woking possible starting lineup:
Ross; Moss, McNerney, Wilkinson, Casey; Browne, Anderson, Ince, Hessenthaler, Kellerman; Amond

We say: Chesterfield 1-1 Woking

This is destined to be a close-fought battle between two teams looking to gain promotion to League Two, so we expect the points to be shared at the Technique Stadium.
