Such is life at Chelsea that it has become the norm for mass incomings and outcomings to take place at Stamford Bridge during the majority of transfer windows.

That was the case in January in terms of arrivals with eight first-team additions being made by the Blues, six of those players immediately linking up with the senior squad.

However, only Jorginho departed Graham Potter's squad, leaving the Englishman with far greater numbers at their Cobham training ground than he would like.

Although none of the loan exits facilitated at the turn of the year impacted the first team, they were a necessity if players were going to keep their development on an upward trajectory.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how the players who made temporary exits in January are faring at their respective clubs.

Although Lyon made it clear to Chelsea that they were not open to a sale in January, Todd Boehly pressed ahead with completing a deal for the summer, allowing the young right-back to remain at his current club.

In theory, that proved beneficial for all parties, but the 19-year-old sustained a hamstring injury on February 8 and has not featured since. Instead, the youngster has spent a period of his rehabilitation at Chelsea's training ground.

Chelsea had hoped to include Andrey Santos in their squad for the remainder of the season before it become apparent through two failed efforts that a work permit would not be granted for the time being.

The Brazilian prospect has since racked up five starts for former club Vasco da Gama since rejoining on loan until May, with the 18-year-old expected to link up with the Blues for pre-season.

While Bashir Humphreys was a surprise starter for Chelsea versus Manchester City in the FA Cup in January, the sheer numbers in the senior ranks meant that a loan for the young centre-back was always likely for the remainder of 2022-23.

The 20-year-old can be delighted with his progression at 2.Bundesliga club SC Paderborn, making seven starts in all competitions having established himself as a regular in the back three.

More locally, Cesare Casadei took time to warm into life on loan at Reading, but the former Inter Milan youngster is now regarded as a regular in central midfield.

Five starts and two substitute outings have been made in the second tier of English football, his solitary strike versus Blackburn Rovers earlier this month a fine effort from 20 yards.

Chelsea also took the decision in January to allow academy goalkeepers Teddy Sharman-Lowe and Eddie Beach to gain experience in the National League South.

England Under-19 international Sharman-Lowe has made 13 appearances for Havant & Waterlooville, while Beach has the same amount of outings under his belt at Chelmsford City.
