Head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he is speaking with Chelsea regarding the extension of his contract.

Since his arrival in January 2021, the German can claim to have enjoyed a successful period at Stamford Bridge, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Chelsea have also reached multiple domestic cup finals, finishing as runners-up in each of them, but they dropped off the pace in the race for the Premier League title last season.

Such is the progression of Manchester City that Chelsea are regarded as no more than outsiders to challenge for the top-flight crown in 2022-23.

Nevertheless, unlike under previous owner Roman Abramovich, Tuchel is unlikely to be removed from his position on the basis that Chelsea do not quickly become fiercer rivals to the North West outfit.

Instead, Todd Boehly is allegedly keen to establish continuity at the West Londoners with the offer of long-term deals to many of the club's key men, whether that be on the pitch or in the dugout.

Reports suggest that this applies to Tuchel, and the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss has admitted that discussions have already taken place.

As quoted by football.london, Tuchel said: "There are talks, but I think given the situation where we come from, and where we are in the middle of the transfer period, I think it is the very best if I focus on my team and on sports and on being competitive.

"My people talk to the owners and take care of everything else. You know how glad I am to be here and how much I like it. So it's a good thing."

Chelsea have been aggressive with the transfer strategy this season, complementing the arrival of several high-profile names with the signings of numerous top prospects.

That continued on Friday as they confirmed the acquisition of Inter Milan midfielder Cesare Casadei, who will be given time to adapt to English life and learn the language before being thrust into first-team contention.

Tuchel also acknowledged on Friday that he remained in the hunt for more established players, that likely to include a new centre-back and centre-forward.

Leicester City's Wesley Fofana and Barcelona's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are said to be Tuchel's preferred options in those areas of the pitch. body check tags ::
