Chelsea 'block Omari Hutchinson Jamaica call-up ahead of Manchester City tie'

Chelsea reportedly tell Omari Hutchinson not to join up with the Jamaica squad ahead of their EFL Cup third-round tie with Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Chelsea have reportedly told Omari Hutchinson not to join Jamaica for their upcoming international friendly with Cameroon ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round tie with Manchester City.

The former Arsenal man has shone at youth level for the Blues since making the decision to swap the Emirates Stadium for Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Hutchinson has scored six goals and set up six more in 14 games for Chelsea's Under-21s, including five goals and four assists from 11 Premier League 2 appearances.

The Jamaica international is still waiting to make his first-team debut under Graham Potter, but he was on the bench for their 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of October.

Hutchinson has been taking part in first-team training sessions over the past few weeks, and his senior debut for the West London club may not be too far away.

The 19-year-old is due to represent Jamaica against Cameroon on Wednesday, but The Athletic states that Chelsea have told him not to accept the invitation.

The report adds that Hutchinson will therefore be in contention to make his first senior appearance for Chelsea when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for the third round of the EFL Cup against Man City.

Potter and Pep Guardiola are both expected to name much-changed XIs for the match, and there is a possibility that Hutchinson will be involved in some capacity.

The teenager - who has one senior cap for Jamaica after representing England up to Under-19 level - represented Arsenal for seven years between 2015 and 2022 before contract talks broke down.

As a result, Chelsea swooped in to bring Hutchinson to the blue half of London after he had recorded 17 goals and 16 assists in 46 appearances for Arsenal across the Under-18 and Under-21 age groups.

Chelsea's Under-21s manager Mark Robinson spoke to The Athletic about Hutchinson last month, and he believes that the attacker's "humble" and "talented" character is emerging following some nervy early performances.

"Omari has been fantastic. When you are a young player and you make that change of club, there is a lot of pressure on you. When he first came in, he probably felt that pressure, the big expectations on him moving from Arsenal and coming across to Chelsea," Robinson said.

"I think, in his early performances, there was that pressure. But as time has gone on, you are seeing him relaxing more and more and he is really starting to show the player he is going to be.

"I am really pleased with him. For us as a club, it's just a case of helping him overcome that expectancy and pressure when things aren't quite coming off for him.

"I think we have done that and he will agree we have done that well. We are now starting to see what a talented lad he is. We have a really good relationship. We talk regularly. He is just focused on where he wants to go and how he is going to get there. He is a real humble character. He is great to work with."

Hutchinson never made a first-team appearance for Arsenal, but he did make the bench for the Gunners in the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup.
