Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy may face a spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Senegal.

Chelsea have been dealt a blow after it emerged that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy had suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with Senegal.

The Blues recently signed the stopper from Rennes in a £20m deal, identifying the 28-year-old as a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

However, rather than build on his first two appearances for the club, it appears that Mendy may have to spend some time on the sidelines.

The Senegalese Football Federation revealed on Thursday evening that Chelsea's new arrival had sustained an issue with his thigh earlier this week.

While the severity of the problem is unclear, Mendy is not expected to play any part of the games against Morocco and Mauritania.

Chelsea are next in action when they face Southampton at Stamford Bridge on October 17.
