Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as front-runners in the race to sign Leicester City's James Maddison this summer, with Newcastle United also interested.

The 26-year-old returned to the Foxes' starting XI on the final day of the Premier League season, and despite beating West Ham United in the East Midlands, results elsewhere confirmed Leicester's relegation to the Championship.

Having scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in the league for Dean Smith's side this term, Maddison is one of many Foxes players who are likely to depart the King Power Stadium this summer.

According to The Mirror, local rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are currently front-runners in the hunt for Maddison's services, with Champions League-bound Newcastle also huge admirers of the midfielder.

The report claims that the Gunners' number-one target is West Ham's Declan Rice - although Mikel Arteta's men could attempt a move for Maddison if they are able to offload current members of their squad.

Leicester are reportedly hopeful that a bidding war between interested parties will increase the amount they receive for the sale of the England international, with Spurs identifying Maddison as a player who could improve the quality of their midfield.

Eddie Howe's men will be looking to increase their squad depth as they prepare to fight on four fronts next season - the Magpies' sporting director Dan Ashworth was in attendance when Leicester lost 3-0 to Liverpool a fortnight ago. body check tags ::
